What have they been up to? Lianne Sanderson

Position: forward

Orlando Pride 2016

Place of birth: Lewisham, England

The affable former England international had a brief spell with the Orlando Pride in 2016, scoring 2 goals in 8 games. After successful spells with the likes of Chelsea, Espanyol and the Boston Breakers among others. Sanderson landed in the City Beautiful amidst much excitement, via the 2016 expansion draft from the Portland Thorns, alongside Alex Morgan and Kaylyn Kyle. By the time she was traded away in June of 2016 she was tied with Morgan on 2 goals and an assist, despite playing less and attempting fewer shots. It's probably fair to say, we never got to see the best of Lianne in purple.

Since leaving the Pride, Sanderson had short spells with the Western New York Flash and Juventus before flaking it a day in 2019. Sanderson has since become something of an activist for racial equality, and has also done some punditry work for Sky Sports. Sanderson has also spoken out about her encounters with racism, during her time with England. She spoke in support of Eni Aluko, when Aluko made allegations of racist language being used by former Lionesses boss Mark Sampson. Sanderson continues to be something of an advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement in England. Keep up the great work Lianne👍
